Information Technology deploys a university-wide Desktop Computing Project." UHD full-time faculty and staff members are provided with a desktop computer or laptop for general productivity software on a three-year rotating basis determined by Department. Computers which fall below the minimum standard are upgraded based on the department's upgrade rotation.
Departments that are eligible for new computer replacement by the Desktop Computing Project are those that are HEAF eligible. In some cases the departments that are not eligible for new computers or laptops purchase them with their own budgets. Access to PCs is also provided for adjunct faculty and part-time staff as defined by their unit leadership. Network departmental laser printers are installed in departments, but individual user printers are covered from the unit's budget.
A set of applications and hardware standards has been adopted for all University computers to be provided to faculty and staff.
