The cheers at NRG Stadium were not for a football team or rodeo event. On Dec. 18, Honors Students walked across the stage as University of Houston-Downtown graduates during the 71st Commencement ceremonies.
Five Honors Program students recently won the chance to present their work at the National Collegiate Honors Council annual conference in Orlando, Florida, in October. Unfortunately, due to COVID concerns, Tyler Good and Luis Abete were unable to attend. Fikir Tadesse presented a poster titled “Effects of Plant-Derived Anticancer Agents on Levels of CDKs, p53 and Rb1 gene.” Together Gladys Chan and recent graduate Tooba Narejo presented a poster titled “Virtually Engaged Communities Strive for Equitable Societies and Environmental Justice,” which they developed under the mentorship of Professor Caroline Smith.
