Holidays
UHD annual holidays are set by state law and approved annually by the University of Houston System Board of Regents. UHD observes most national holidays and an extended winter holiday break.
If you are a benefits-eligible employee required to work on a scheduled holiday, you are entitled to equivalent time off with pay to be taken within the 12-month period following the work week in which the holiday occurred. You and your supervisor must mutually agree on the date(s) of the equivalent time off in advance.
Employees beginning work on the first day of the month are entitled to pay for a University-designated holiday that occurred before the first work day if the holiday occurred during the same month and did not fall on a Saturday or a Sunday. Employees terminating employment on the last work day of the month are entitled to pay for a University-designated holiday occurring after the last work day if the holiday falls within that month and does not fall on a Saturday or a Sunday.
