Borrowing From Other Libraries

University of Houston Libraries

On-site borrowing from the University of Houston allows current UHD students, faculty, and staff to borrow items directly from the following on-campus libraries.

  • M.D. Anderson Library
  • William R. Jenkins Architecture, Design, and Art Library
    • Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, Room 106
  • Music Library
    • Rebecca and John J. Moores School of Music, Room 220
  • Health Sciences Library
    • Health 2 Building, Room 2222
  • Medical Library
    • UH College of Medicine Building, Info Commons

UHD students, faculty, and staff must meet the following requirements to perform on-site borrowing in-person from the central campus:

  • Be enrolled/employed in the current term.
  • Keep library account in good standing (fines/fees less than $10.00).
  • Present a valid driver's license or identification card to enter the facility.
  • Provide a valid university identification card as a library card.
  • Check in at the M.D. Anderson Library’s Circulation Desk for instructions.
  • Please return items directly to any library within the UH System.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the specific library borrowing from, including payment of fees or fines for any damaged or lost items.

Intercampus Delivery

UHD students, faculty, and staff can place an online request to have an item delivered to the UHD library or UHD Northwest Campus from another UH system library (UH or UH Clear Lake). Items that cannot be requested include course reserves and some items belonging to special collections. Please see Requesting Items for more information.

My Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan is a service for UHD students, faculty, and staff to get materials not available at any UH System Library. See the Interlibrary Loan Guide for more information, or contact the Interlibrary Loan department at 713-221-2760 or LibraryLoan@uhd.edu.

TexShare

The TexShare Program is an initiative of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission that allows UHD students, faculty, and staff to borrow books and other materials from participating Texas libraries.  TexShare cards expire at the end of each semester. Borrowing rules are set by the lending  library, so be sure to call ahead before you visit another library to ask about their borrowing rules.

On-campus
Current UHD students, staff, and faculty in good standing are eligible to apply in person at the Circulation Desk for a TexShare card.  Please visit us at the Circulation Desk located on the 5th floor of the One Main Building with your university ID. 

Online and Distance
Current online and distance students in good standing are eligible to apply online.  To apply online email Donovan Parker parkerd@uhd.edu and Adrian Mallard mallarda@uhd.edu include the following information:

  • Name
  • 900#
  • Email address
  • Phone no.
  • Address on file with the university
  • Scanned image of your university ID

Once your information is verified, your TexShare card will be mailed to the address on file with the university. 

Visitors
Please bring a current TexShare card and a valid Texas ID to the library, and an account will be established for you to borrow UHD library materials.  Please see Loan Periods and Renewals for borrowing privileges for visitors.  Currently, UHD does not honor TexShare cards issued by the Fort Worth Public Library system. 

 

Rice University Fondren Library On-Site Interlibrary Loan

The Rice On-Site Interlibrary Loan Program allows current UHD students, faculty, and staff to borrow up to 4 items directly from Rice University's Fondren Library.

  • Requester's UHD library account must be in good standing.
  • UHD students, faculty, and staff may initiate Rice On-Site Interlibrary Loan either in person or by email using this on-site approval request form.
  • Requester will need to provide full name, library barcode number, (900# or 21132#), and the titles of up to four items that are being requested from Fondren Library. The UHD Library will then notify Fondren Library that a borrower is being sent to them.
  • The requester will receive an email when borrowing from the Fondren Library is approved. Fondren Library will not check out items to you until you have received this authorization.
  • Authorized borrower should check in at the Fondren Library Circulation Desk for instructions.
  • Turnaround time for approval requests may be longer during evening and weekend hours.
  • Requester's UHD ID is required to check-out materials from Fondren Library.
  • Please return items to UHD Library.
  • The borrower is responsible for any damage or lost charges.

Likewise, current Rice students, faculty, and staff may borrow up to 4 items directly from UHD's W.I. Dykes Library.

Islamic Da'wah Center Library of Islamic Knowledge On-Site Borrowing

On-Site Borrowing from the Islamic Da'wah Center allows current UHD students, faculty, and staff to borrow items directly from the Library of Islamic Knowledge.

  • Requester's UHD library account must be in good standing.
  • UHD students, faculty, and staff may initiate on-site borrowing either in person at the UHD Library or by email using this on-site approval request form.
  • Requester will need to provide full name and library barcode number (900# or 21132#). The UHD Library will then notify the IDC Library that a borrower is being sent to them.
  • The requester will receive an email when borrowing from the IDC Library is approved. The IDC Library will not check out items to you until you have received this authorization.
  • Authorized borrower should check in at the IDC Library Circulation Desk for instructions.
  • Turnaround time for approval requests may be longer during evening and weekend hours.
  • Requester's UHD ID is required to check-out materials from the IDC Library.
  • Please return items directly to the IDC Library.
  • UHD visitors to the IDC Library are expected to adhere to its policies and procedures, which include late fines of $1 per day and a $150 minimum item replacement fee, along with a $45 replacement copy processing fee.
  • The borrower is responsible for any damage or lost charges.

Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center (TMC) Library

UHD students, staff, and faculty can be admitted to the Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library by presenting a current TexShare card. Please visit the Circulation Desk to request your TexShare card. Please call the TMC Library Circulation Desk at 713-799-7147 for more information.
