Freshman Scholarships
Completion of your Admissions application and formal acceptance as a University of Houston-Downtown student is required to be considered for a UHD Freshman Scholarship. UHD does not have a scholarship application process, however you must meet the following requirements to be considered for a UHD Freshman Scholarship:
- Apply for admission to UHD one semester prior to your May high school graduation; completion of the admissions process in December or the previous year is highly recommended. If you graduate in December the same deadlines apply for consideration. Please note that if you chose to enroll in college before the Fall semester following your high school graduation, all college credits and grades received will be considered towards your scholarship eligibility status.
- High school transcripts and college dual credit transcripts must be received by January 10th to allow time for processing; transcripts must be evaluated and results must appear on our Student Record System on or before January 31st. Early high school transcripts are based on your academic progress through December. Official transcript(s) should then be submitted to the Admissions Office, once they become available in early spring.
- Scholarship awards are based on your high school academic record; based on a 4 point scale and enrollment of 12 or more hours; minimum GPA is 2.7. Scholarship candidates with the highest ranking will be given priority.
The General Scholarship Committee will approve candidates based on academic merit. Scholarship candidates are selected based on the academic history found on our Student Record system on January 31st.
The approved freshman scholarship candidates will be notified by mail. The scholarship agreement letter acknowledging student’s acceptance must be submitted by the deadline date indicated.
UHD Freshman scholarships may be renewable up to 8 semesters during the Fall and Spring terms, if renewable criteria are met each year. Your UHD GPA will be reviewed at the end of each academic year. Failure to meet the requirements indicated will cause this scholarship to be forfeited. Once it has been forfeited, it cannot be recovered in the future. Developmental coursework does not count towards the 12 college credit hours required to maintain this scholarship.
Candidates are not eligible to simultaneously receive another UHD Institutional Scholarship, such as a UHD Merit Freshman Scholarship. However, students may receive a Red Rose Scholarship and/or a departmental scholarship during the same academic year.
