Job Summary

The Director, Disability Services leads and sets the vision, mission, and goals for the Office of Disability Services.

Duties

  • Oversees all aspects of the Office of Disability Services
  • Work with faculty to ensure accessibility for students with disabilities
  • Provides students with letters of accommodations
  • Resolves student concerns regarding accessibility and accommodations
  • Provides programming and engagement activities for students served through ODS

Marginal Duties

  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct Reports:

  • Full-time, Part-time, and Student Employees

Delegation of Work:

  • Regularly assigns work to subordinate(s)

Supervision Given:

  • Has primary responsibility for conducting performance evaluations and making recommendations for hiring and dismissing employees.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in ADA law and/or disability services is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of federal and state disability law;
  • Knowledge of the regulations and rules of disability services; k
  • Knowledge of the trends, developments, and best practices of providing disability services in higher education setting;
  • Knowledge of a range of physical, mental, and emotional disabilities

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Abilities:

  • Ability to lead and manage a team;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical, comfortable interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements;
  • Individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks
  • May, on rare occasions, require working in inclement weather conditions
  • May, on rare occasions, be exposed to potentially hazardous bodily fluids
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 15lbs
