Job Summary

The Manger of Fire Safety manages a comprehensive fire and life safety program for the University and ensures that applicable safety codes, policies, and procedures are implemented and enforced. Activities include safety education, interpretation of safety codes, inspections, and incident reports. Serves as the University's Fire Safety Administrator and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AJH).

Duties

  • Audits new and existing construction for Fire code compliance. Writes and reviews comprehensive reports on violation findings
  • Approves building plans, fire alarm drawings, and fire sprinkler drawings and conducts inspections. Issues certificates of completion/compliance with adopted codes
  • Serves as Local Authority Having Jurisdiction on fire safety-related activities for the campus
  • Performs acceptance testing of all life safety systems including, but not limited to, fire alarm systems, fire pumps, sprinklers systems, special hazard systems, smoke evacuation systems, and stairwell pressurization systems
  • Responds to campus emergencies, active fire alarms, and Hazardous material incidents and provides incident reports
  • Manages the campus AED and other life safety programs

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, or related field
  • Experience accepted in lieu of education

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience

License/Certification:

  • TCFP, NFPA (or equivalent) Inspector I and II certifications; TCFP, NFPA (or equivalent) Plan Examiner; IS 100, 200, 700 and 800

Preferred Qualifications

  • CS 300 and 400,
  • CPR/First Aid Instructor,
  • EMT or higher,
  • An advanced degree may be considered toward years of experience

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Work involves moderate exposure (several times per month for approximately 2 hours) to unpleasant elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. It May involve exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.

Physical Demands:

  • Work environment involves some exposure to physical risks that require following basic safety precautions. Position can require moderate physical exertion. Lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
