Campus Carry at UHD
In June, 2015, the 84th Texas Legislature passed, and Governor Greg Abbott signed, Senate Bill 11 (SB 11), also referred to as Campus Carry. S.B. 11 expands the areas on public university campuses where people who hold a License to Carry (LTC) may carry concealed handguns, provided the area has not been designated by the University as a gun-free area.
While required to comply, universities had discretion to implement the law based on the culture unique to the respective campus and taking into account a focus on maintaining safety and gathering input from the greater campus community.
Campus Carry is effective August 1, 2016 for public universities including the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD). For questions about Campus Carry, please contact the UHD Police Department.
