*Laptops must be returned the same day within the specified Laptop Checkout Hours listed above. Late returns will incur penalties, as detailed in the “Conditions of Participation” ​below.​

    If you need to save any work, save it to your own media, such as a USB portable drive or to your OneDrive account.

  • Laptop Check-Out Rules
    • Laptops should be used on campus only and must not be taken off-campus.​​​​
    • Do not leave laptops unattended. You're responsible for the laptop and its peripherals when it's with you.
    • Only UHD students with a valid UHD GatorCard can checkout a laptop. One laptop per student.
    • Report any laptop issues to the IT Service Desk at itservicedesk@uhd.edu or 713-221-8031.
    • University of Houston-Downtown and Information Technology are not responsible for files remaining on the laptop once the laptop is returned and are not responsible for loss or damage to a user’s files as a consequence of the use of the laptop.​
  • Conditions of Participation
    • I acknowledge to abide by UHD’s Computer Access, Security, and Use Policy 08.A.04.
    • I acknowledge that the laptop is to be used only by me and checkout is available during the days and times listed at the top of the page.
    • I acknowledge to assume full responsibility and financial liability for the laptop issued to me from the time it is checked out to me until the time it is checked back into the kiosk.
    • I acknowledge to pay the University of Houston-Downtown for the loss of or damage to the laptop, laptop case, or power adapter that is issued to me through the Automated Laptop checkout kiosk. Fees and fines for lost or damaged equipment are estimated as follows:
      • Violation: Fines/Fees vary
      • Lost or Stolen: $1,400.00
      • Laptop incidentals: Costs vary
      • Overdue: $25.00 per day
    • I acknowledge that if a laptop is returned after the due date, a late fee of $25 per day will be charged.  Additionally, I acknowledge that I will not be permitted to check out any more laptops until this fine is cleared.
    • I agree to report damage, loss, or theft to the IT Service Desk, itservicedesk@uhd.edu​, 713-221-8031.
    • I understand that laptops are NOT to be taken off campus.
    • I acknowledge that if I return the laptop after the due date, I may lose checkout privileges:
      • First offense: I acknowledge I will not be able to checkout a laptop for 2 weeks.
      • Second offense: I acknowledge I will not be able to checkout a laptop for 30 days.
      • Third Offense: I acknowledge I will not be able to checkout a laptop for the remainder of the semester.
    • I acknowledge that laptops returned late incur a $25 per day late fee. A hold may be placed on my account which could result in me not being able to register for classes, receive transcripts, or graduate until the amount owed is paid in full.
    • I acknowledge that all my data must be saved on my OneDrive, external device, or email. Any attempt to save files to the laptop may result in data loss.
    • I acknowledge and agree to indemnify and hold UHD and IT team harmless from any claims or damages arising from using laptops. UHD and IT are not responsible for any loss of data, damage, or theft that occurs while using laptops checked out from the kiosk.
