Scope of Responsibilities
At UHD, Dr. Flores manages the Educational Talent Search department and its staff, which include program advisors, program assistants and federal work-study students and work-study mentor program students. He administers leadership and coaching to staff that provides academic, career, and financial counseling to 875 middle and high school students at nine Aldine Independent School District campuses. Dr. Flores is also the financial steward of over a $2 million dollar grant that entails building collaborative and positive relationships with local school district administration, personnel and community members to provide additional services to first-generation and/or underrepresented youth.
Educational Qualifications
Dr. Flores earned his Doctor of Education in Education Leadership from Sam Houston State University, Master of Education from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston-Victoria. He is has a State of Texas Principal Certification (EC-12), State of Texas Secondary Psychology (6-12), State of Texas Secondary Generic Special Education (6-12) and State of Texas Educational Aide III certifications.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining UHD, Dr. Flores worked as a high school, middle school and elementary public school teacher for 10 years in multiple Texas school districts. He also served as an elementary, middle and high school principal in Houston where he transformed a low-performing school into a high performing school and created a virtual credit recovery program in a specialized high school serving at-risk students. He is the former program manager for a college readiness grant at Lone Star College where he revived a multimillion-dollar grant and served as an adjunct faculty member for first time in college students.
