Scope of Responsibilities
Ms. Ruiz oversees and investigates inquiries concerning sexual misconduct and discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, disability, genetic information, and veteran status to ensure an equitable and inclusive environment for all. She identifies and integrates best practices and serves as the primary compliance officer for laws relating to sexual harassment and violence prevention. She also trains the UHD community and serves as a resource in matters of AA/EEO and sexual misconduct.
Educational Qualifications
Ms. Ruiz earned her J.D. and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a licensed attorney in the State of Texas.
Professional Experience
Ms. Ruiz served in the Office of General Counsel for the University of Houston-System for 15 years as senior assistant general counsel and assistant general counsel. She previously practiced employment-related law, including discrimination and retaliation, and served in the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
