How to Join
Our fraternities and sororities at UHD belong to one of two councils: National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) or the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC). See below for more information on how to join.
National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Fraternities and Sororities
NPHC does not have a structured recruitment process/period as each member group’s national organization has different requirements for their Membership Intake Process. Each group will host an interest/rush meeting either in the fall or spring semester where you can officially express your interest and receive details as to what is required to attain membership with their group.
Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) Fraternities and Sororities
Each organization will host recruitment/rush events, which are basically informational sessions with the members of the respective organization. These are usually held in the early part of the fall and/or spring semester and this is a wonderful opportunity where you can receive more information about the organization and what is required to gain membership within the group.

It is the mission of Greek Life to foster a quality fraternal and sorority experience for members and contribute to the University community by:
Enhancing student development through membership in fraternities and sororities.
Promoting the development of a community comprised of values-based organizations, including both individual chapters and the governing councils.
Engaging students in values-based decision making and programming consistent with the four common pillars of Greek life:
- Academic Excellence
- Leadership Development
- Community Service
- Brotherhood/Sisterhood
The University of Houston-Downtown will be an excellent Greek life community that provides engagement opportunities for UHD students and enhances the overall UHD student experience. Questions?
