Payment Process for VA Educational Benefits

Chapter 31 and chapter 33 at 100%:
A hold will be placed in your account after your enrollment has been certified. This hold is to ensure that your classes will not be dropped after the payment deadlines. Students entitled to chapter3 is responsible for fees not covered by the GI-Bill®, such as, parking fee and excess course attempt fee.

Chapter 33 less than 100%, 30, 35, 1​606, 1607: Students must arrange payment with the Cashier Office in advance or classes will be dropped after the deadlines.

First Time Use of Benefits

If this is your first-time receiving VA education benefits at UHD, follow the instructions below.

  • Apply for benefits at gov.
  • Receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA.
  • Log in to your myUHD self-service account.
  • Enroll in classes and finalize your schedule for the term.
  • Make sure you have secured your courses before the payment deadlines by signing up for a payment plan.
  • Complete the VA Certification eForm under the Records & Enrollment tile for instructions.
  • Allow five to seven business days for processing.

  Please Note:

  • School Certifying Officials are unable to certify classes that do not apply to a student’s degree plan. Repeated classes that have received a passing grade are unable to be recertified, unless the university’s catalog allows repeated classes for a better grade.

Please allow the VA six to eight weeks to process claims/benefits

Continuing Use of Benefits

For GI Bill ® re-certification, UHD requires submission of the Veteran Certification eForm to the Office of the Veteran Services each semester. Please follow the steps below to re-certify your VA benefits.

  • Log in to your myUHD self-service account.
  • Enroll in classes and finalize your schedule for the term.
  • Make sure you have secured your courses before the payment deadlines by signing up for a payment plan.
  • Complete the VA Certification eForm under the Academic Records tile for instructions.
  • Allow five to seven business days for processing.

Parent Institution Request Form

This Parent Institution Request Form is used to request a letter from your primary institution to be sent to the visiting institution. The letter is proof of class enrollment for the purpose of using VA education benefits at both institutions.

Track Your Benefits Status

  • Log in to your myUHD self-service account.
  • Click the Records & Enrollment tile.
  • Select View Veteran Certification / Adjustments.
  • View Enrollment ID(s).
  • If necessary, contact the VA at 1-888-442-4551 with your enrollment ID for more information.
